I was very excited to find this book on . I raised chickens all growing up, and now I'm planning to do it again next year when I have my own backyard. We just kind of winged it when I was little and raising chickens, so it's so nice to be able to read a book on this topic- I feel much more prepared now. This book was just what I needed to read. It is very thorough and helpful! Thank you Eric for writing such a helpful book.
If you are considering chickens and don't know a thing about raising them this book will give you a good glimpse into what you need to know. Not as thorough as some other books but a good basic read. We have really enjoyed raising our own backyard flock and this book will be a good book to pass along to someone else considering raising.
After eating fresh eggs at a bed and breakfast I was hooked. I've been very interested in raising some chickens for the benefit of my own family, but didn't know how or where to start. This is a wonderful book and resource! It's amazing to see that with the right information and direction, this will truly be possible for my family, and that my kids especially can benefit from having healthy fresh eggs.
There are plenty of reasons to start raising chickens in your backyard, but you need some sort of guideline to start out. This is one of the best books I have read on the subject of raising chickens at home. There are some definite tips that you cannot miss when raising chickens in your back yard.
Raising chickens isn't hard per se, you just need to have some base knowledge. This book provided me with just enough advice to get me started. Two thumbs up!
I have no plans on raising backyard chickens, but my sister's neighbor raises them so I thought I'd get this book and then loan it to him. But of course I had to look through it first! I had no idea there was so much to know about raising chickens (all I remember from visiting my uncle's farm was collecting eggs) - including what to feed them, what breed to buy what you should know about the color of eggs. An interesting read - way out of my normal library but now when anyone asks me about chickens, I'll know the answer!
My girlfriend and I have been thinking about raising chickens and this book was extremely helpful to get my head around what kind of work goes into this type of thing.
There is a short introduction where the author explains how it all started, then it goes right into the good stuff - Getting started, tools and things you will need, the types of chickens, getting/building a chicken coop, and even some heath issues that may come up.
Overall, the book was very well laid out and will give you a great overview of how to get started. Highly recommend this one!
